Michigan's tourism promotion efforts are paying off as a survey indicates that its official travel website received a record number of visits last year.
Traffic to Michigan's tourism website increased by 30 percent in 2008 to 11.7 million web visits. And click-throughs from the site to Michigan tourism industry websites averaged 16,074 clicks per day, also a new record.
The website contains information on more than 12,000 attractions, events, hotels, resorts, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses throughout the state.
"Our [efforts continue] to produce great results, including these record volumes at [our website]," says George Zimmermann, vice president for Travel Michigan at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. "And this year we added a winter campaign for the first time in 15 years."
Fans of outdoor winter recreation have at their disposal more than 40 downhill ski areas and resorts, and over 3,000 miles of cross-country ski trails in Michigan.
In addition to that, snowmobile enthusiasts are sure to find numerous attractions as this has been one of the snowiest winter in many years. Snow is also is great for dog sledding, snowshoeing and many other winter recreation activities.
