Yankee presents top travel destinations in New England

1 January 2010 No Comment

The upcoming May-June issue of the Yankee Magazine includes a travel guide to the region listing hundreds of attractions, places to stay and events.

Suggesting New England will be one of the hottest places to see in the coming months, Mel Allen, writing for the magazine, says "no place I know lets you see so much – from sea to mountains to deep, clear lakes to storybook villages and world-class museums – as New England."

The off-the-beaten-path guide features the White Memorial Foundation, a nature preserve in Litchfield, Connecticut and Harmony Home Farm B&B in Little Compton, Rhode Island.

The Skinner State Park in Hadley, Massachusetts, is the best place to view migrating hawks, the article says, while the Portsmouth Harbor Trail in New Hampshire offers top-notch historic walking tours.

The author also singles out Vermont's Shelburne Vineyard and the lighthouse tour at Burnt Island in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, as attractive options.

"Travel may never have been so important to our psyche as it is now," writes Allen. "We still need the fun and adventure and stimulation that travel, more than anything else, gives us."
